The 300: Visuals an A, History an F, or so I've read. [Mar. 13th, 2007|05:47 pm]
Evidently (I haven't seen the movie), the 300 is historically mucked up. Spartans are freedom fighters? [Actually slaveholders big time] Evidently the movie skips the Man-boy love stuff in Sparta too. My friend George says it looks awesome, though.

FBI abuses patriot act, shocking I say [Mar. 11th, 2007|05:58 am]
100,000's of letters sent by FBI (semi-allowed, but not really, by the patriot act), threatening people and companies unless they fork over info. No judges needed [without this check, of course, the power was abused]. Gee, people abuse power without over-site, I'm shocked I say, SHOCKED!

Torture fun [Mar. 11th, 2007|05:51 am]
[mood | pissed off]

"The US government began hearings on Friday to determine if 14 accused terrorists currently being held at Guantanamo Bay can be deemed enemy combatants."

Bush wants these hearings secret (no media or outsiders) first and foremost because he authorized torture, & he doesn't want Americans to remember this. See 2 articles below. I included ABC because on important rants like this one I don't like just having a progressive blog site link only.

6 Random Things [Nov. 10th, 2006|07:12 pm]
OK, I've been tagged by [info]szandara to say 6 random things about myself.

1) I often have a song in my head (right now its Kyrie by Mister Mister).

2) I attended the 30th Star Trek Anniversary in LA. I was a few feet away when the famous guests went down the red carpet. I remember seeing Kirk, Spock, & Jadzia Dax (from Deep Space Nine, very tall, very hot).

3) I have calculated 100,000 digits of PI.

4) I like to sing. I'm not great, but I just cannot help it sometimes. Just sang a few bars of "Do you Hear what I hear?" with my son. On very rare occasion, I like to sing "Preeee pare yea the way of the Lord" (From Godspell) at the top of my lungs. I'm not religious, but it is a cool projecting song.

5) I have flat feet. Must wear good/informal shoes, formal shoes are hopeless.

6) 0.19245 (that random enough?)

I think many of the people I've friended have already been tagged, so I'll just pass on "passing along the fun".

Legislature saves Gay Marriage by any means! [Nov. 9th, 2006|06:14 pm]
[mood | excited]

Excellent! By a procedural vote, the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention voted to adjourn (needed only 101 votes out of 200) instead of voting on a MA Constitutional Amendment to BAN Gay Marriage (needed 50 out of 200 votes this year and next to go to a popular vote in 2008). Voting by the populace is great, but you shouldn't take basic rights away at the ballot box.

The battle may not be over until Jan 2 (when I think this session of the legislature is over), but I think we may have just made pernmanent marriage for any two adults in this state, YAY!

Woooooooooooooooooooo! [Nov. 9th, 2006|06:04 am]
[mood | excited]

House and Senate baby! I have a dream, of one day having a choice between candidates. Until the Nazi/Neocon/crazy policies of Bushco are overturned, my hands/votes are tied to the opposition. Let the investigations begin, let the torture end, let the gays live in peace, let the healing of the environment begin, let my rights as a US citizen (and human being) be returned.

Woo Hoooo! Party!

White House funds anti-abortion groups with your taxes! [Nov. 3rd, 2006|05:57 am]
[mood | angry]

Bush & Congress have had the US government fund anti-abortion groups both directly via. faith-based charity and other routes with YOUR TAX DOLLARS. According to the article, women were given false and misleading information. I'm twice outraged, from a scientific & "separation of church & state" points of view.

Political landscape, Senator Macaca, travel on Election Day [Oct. 27th, 2006|06:58 pm]
[mood | happy]

Unless Rove & company really hack the Diebold machines, looks like Democrats will win the house! Senate looks hopeless though...Senator Macaca's opponent in Virginia has a problem; it was just revealed that he wrote a bit of strange porn...sure to deep six him in VA.

I've already voted! I got the thrill today, since I may have a one day business trip on election day, I wanted to make sure, so I voted absentee today. I still truly get a rush from voting. Bush cannot ruin this country...it's still great, screw Bush, we will still have a kick ass country, once we clean his mess up.

Torture, Rendition, Great interview [Oct. 22nd, 2006|04:22 am]
[mood | angry]

There was a great interview with Stephen Grey about the CIA's rendition program. This torture thing is so very wrong, & we have 2 (at least) reasons for NOT torturing.

1) It's morally right thing to do (not to torture).
2) It's in our self-interest (see excerpt below).

Oh, and by the way, the due process for rendition is non-existent. Sounds to legal and dry, but due-process is the sunlight that keeps our legal system fair.

EXCERPT follows:

STEPHEN GREY: Yeah, it is not a point that I really make myself, but a point that has been made to me by many of those involved, some of the most experienced people in fighting to counter insurgency around the world, military officers and CIA -- and former CIA operatives. It’s hurting, because -- I think you have to go back to what would people like Osama bin Laden like us to do. What do they want us to do? They want us to torture. They want us to take oppressive acts, because that wins recruits to their causes. It’s an old lesson of -- an old method of terrorists. Take a small minority extremist group, how do they win support? How do they turn themselves into a mass movement?

The answer is, cause a terrorist action, kill an innocent people, provoke an enormous reaction which rounds up people who are innocent, causes people to want to take revenge for what’s happened to their families. And this is what’s happened. There’s been a massive reaction. There are people who have been turned into terrorists, as a result of some of the repressive actions that have taken place. And rendition is one of those repressive actions.
