I was a few feet away when the famous guests went down the red carpet. I remember seeing Kirk, Spock, & Jadzia Dax (from Deep Space Nine, very tall, very hot).

3) I have calculated 100,000 digits of PI.

4) I like to sing. I'm not great, but I just cannot help it sometimes. Just sang a few bars of "Do you Hear what I hear?" with my son. On very rare occasion, I like to sing "Preeee pare yea the way of the Lord" (From Godspell) at the top of my lungs. I'm not religious, but it is a cool projecting song.

5) I have flat feet. Must wear good/informal shoes, formal shoes are hopeless.

6) 0.19245 (that random enough?)

I think many of the people I've friended have already been tagged, so I'll just pass on "passing along the fun".

By a procedural vote, the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention voted to adjourn (needed only 101 votes out of 200) instead of voting on a MA Constitutional Amendment to BAN Gay Marriage (needed 50 out of 200 votes this year and next to go to a popular vote in 2008). Voting by the populace is great, but you shouldn't take basic rights away at the ballot box.

The battle may not be over until Jan 2 (when I think this session of the legislature is over), but I think we may have just made pernmanent marriage for any two adults in this state, YAY!

LINK ME

Torture, Rendition, Great interview

There was a great interview with Stephen Grey about the CIA's rendition program. This torture thing is so very wrong, & we have 2 (at least) reasons for NOT torturing.

1) It's morally right thing to do (not to torture).
2) It's in our self-interest (see excerpt below).

Oh, and by the way, the due process for rendition is non-existent. Sounds to legal and dry, but due-process is the sunlight that keeps our legal system fair.

EXCERPT follows:

STEPHEN GREY: Yeah, it is not a point that I really make myself, but a point that has been made to me by many of those involved, some of the most experienced people in fighting to counter insurgency around the world, military officers and CIA -- and former CIA operatives. It’s hurting, because -- I think you have to go back to what would people like Osama bin Laden like us to do. What do they want us to do? They want us to torture. They want us to take oppressive acts, because that wins recruits to their causes. It’s an old lesson of -- an old method of terrorists. Take a small minority extremist group, how do they win support? How do they turn themselves into a mass movement?

The answer is, cause a terrorist action, kill an innocent people, provoke an enormous reaction which rounds up people who are innocent, causes people to want to take revenge for what’s happened to their families. And this is what’s happened. There’s been a massive reaction. There are people who have been turned into terrorists, as a result of some of the repressive actions that have taken place. And rendition is one of those repressive actions.
